I’ve kissed Cheryl Cole (ok it was only on the cheek… but it counts)
I dropped out of college because I got offered a job.
I used to sell woolly jumpers for a living.
I have never broken a bone… that’s jinxed it, hasn’t it?
When I was 7 I got hit in the face by a football which had been kicked by Charlie Nicholas
4. Career History
Worked at Radio Roxburgh when I was 13 (hospital radio station in Hawick)
Stared at Radio Borders as a volunteer in 1990, off air, making tea/coffee etc for the presenters, filing away CDs
Presented my first show in 1991 on Radio Borders – Saturday night chart show “Best of the Borders” from 6-8pm
Moved to Saturday morning breakfast show which I presented on Radio Borders 1992-1996
In 1998 got offered a full time show presenting the breakfast show on Northsound 2
In 2001 was approached by Radio Forth to present breakfast show on Forth 2
In 2003 moved to 97.3 Forth One to host “Boogie in the Morning”
Still there now (8 years later!)
Saturday show (with Dingo) networked across Scotland on Clyde 1, Tay FM, West FM and Radio Borders in 2009
5. Career highlight to date - any award wins / major achievements?
2004 UK Commercial Radio Presenter of the Year (NTL/Arqiva Awards)
2006 and 2009 nominated again for the same award (but didn’t win)
New York World Radio Awards – Gold Winner – 2009 and 2010 in “Best Comedy/Humour in a local market”
Career highlight was singing a duet with Kylie Minogue in 2004. We sang “Kids” and I did the Robbie Williams bit…
6. Your favourite Scottish event of the year?
T in the Park
7. If you could change one thing about Edinburgh what would it be?
The trams!
8. What gives Edinburgh its edge?
It’s the prettiest city in the UK. The castle and the history are amazing.
9. What is your favourite band/music act of all time and why?
Stereophonics. They are such great song-writers, great “live”, and really rock and roll, and we’ve been lucky enough to meet them a few times and they are just really nice blokes.
10. Which fashion accessory could you not live without?
The only accessory I have is my watch really. Accessories are for girls.
11. What is Edinburgh’s best kept secret?
If I tell you, it wouldn’t be a secret would it?
12. Favourite childhood memory?
Going to Blackpool illuminations with my pal Boydy and going on the “Revolution” for the first time
13. Clubbing in Edinburgh – where’s hot?
George Street. Or if you are in the mood for cheese “Fingers Piano Bar” for a singalong
14. Who is your favourite celebrity and why?
Simon Cowell. He’s a genius. Gets everyone talking about his shows all the time. And he’s funny, and seems like a decent bloke.
15. Who is the most interesting person you have interviewed and why?
Ben Elton. I am a big fan of his TV stuff and his books, and he wrote “We will rock you” the musical. He co-wrote “The Young Ones” and “Blackadder” – 2 of the best shows there has ever been.
16. If we gave you £1k what would you spend it on?
A ski holiday
17. Why do you love your job?
Because it’s also my hobby. I did it without pay for years. I get paid to play music and chat with my pals. And speak to Kylie.
18. If you were not a presenter of Forth One what would your dream job be?
I would love to be a pilot. I’m taking lessons. But I’ll never do it professionally cos I’m not clever enough.
19. What do you do to relax?
Watch football, ski-ing in the winter, golf in the summer.
20. What excites you?
Going on planes, meeting celebs and other things I couldn’t possibly tell you about J
21. What do you love most about your life?
I am happy, have great friends and family and love my job. It doesn’t get much better than that does it?
